Idaho's Flichel Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Idaho ‚¬Ë†Steelheads center Marty Flichel is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for January 17-23.

The 34 year old scored three goals goals and had five assists last week as the Steelheads went 2-0-1 against Mountain ‚¬Ë†Division rival Utah.

Flichel opened the week with two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Grizzlies on ‚¬Ë†Wednesday and ended the week with a six-point (3g-3a) performance in an 8-1 win on Saturday.

A native of Hodgeville, ‚¬Ë†Saskatchewan, ‚¬Ë†Flichel has 26 points (12g-14a) in 31 games this season, and has 319 points (118g-201a) in 318 career ECHL games with ‚¬Ë†Dayton and Idaho.

Flichel was part of Idaho ‚¬â„¢s 2007 Kelly Cup championship team and 2010 Kelly Cup runner up. He has 40 points (15g-25a) in 47 career Kelly Cup Playoff games.

On behalf of Marty Flichel a case of pucks will be donated to an Idaho youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 23,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
