Miller Called Up, Nicholson Released

Gwinnett Gladiators forward Tim Miller was called up by the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League, while forward Colin Nicholson was released.

Miller signed a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO) with Chicago after he recorded one assist and a +1 plus/minus rating in two outings with the Wolves earlier this season. He was returned to Gwinnett on Jan. 17. The 23-year-old forward had 18 goals in 43 games with the Gladiators this season, and ranked second on the team with 31 points.

Miller split time last season between Gwinnett and AHL Syracuse. He earned two points (one goal, one assist) in 21 games last year in the AHL. He tallied 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists) with the Gladiators in 44 games. After he completed his senior season at the University of Michigan, he had one goal in one game with Syracuse in the 2008-09 season.

In four years at the University of Michigan, the Davisburg, Michigan, native earned 77 points (25 goals, 52 assists) in 166 career collegiate games for the Wolverines.

Nicholson, 28, signed with Gwinnett on Jan. 23 and was held off the scoresheet in a 2-1 loss to Greenville that day. He appeared in 70 games with the Florida Everblades last season, and earned 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists). He also recorded an assist in eight Kelly Cup Playoff games with the Everblades.

The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
