G Tyson Sexsmith Activated, Recalled to Worcester

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks announced goaltender Tyson Sexsmith has been activated off injured reserve and recalled by San Jose, from the Thunder, to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.

Sexsmith, selected by San Jose in the third round (91st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and a Memorial Cup champion goaltender with the Vancouver Giants in 2006-07, was originally assigned to the Thunder on Oct. 4 and placed on injured reserve on Nov. 10.

He last suited up for the Thunder on Nov. 7 against Bakersfield, making 16 saves in a 4-0 victory against Bakersfield in 55 minutes of action.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound goaltender is 3-1-2 in six ECHL games this season, posting a 2.93 save percentage and .881 save percentage. He was awarded Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors, ending Oct. 24, when he went 2-0-0 with a .941 save percentage.

Sexsmith is 5-1-2 in eight career ECHL games with the Thunder and Kalamazoo and posted a 4-6-1 record, one shutout, .860 save percentage and 3.94 goals-against-average in 13 AHL games last season with Worcester.

The native of Priddis, Alberta had a career 120-35-6 record with a 2.00 goals-against-average and .907 save percentage in 179 games through five seasons (2004-09) with the Vancouver Giants and Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League.

Sexsmith helped guide Vancouver to a Memorial Cup championship in 2006-07 and posted career-highs in wins (43), minutes (3,678) and games (62) in 2007-08 with a 43-11-8 record, nine shutouts, .911 save percentage and league-leading 1.89 goals-against-average. He is the WHL all-time leader with 26 career shutouts.

He is the fourth player to be called-up from the Thunder to Worcester this season, joining left wing Garet Hunt, center Chris Lawrence and right winger Jim McKenzie. The transaction comes on the same day San Jose recalled goaltender Alex Stalock from Worcester.

A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10.
