Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Lansing, MI - For the eighth consecutive time this season, and the 11th dating back to last year, the TinCaps were victorious over the Lansing Lugnuts, winning 5-3 Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Four different members of the Fort Wayne lineup knocked in a run, keeping a balanced attack afloat.
The TinCaps wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two first-inning runs against Lugnuts starter Alonzo Gonzalez (2-4). Back-to-back infield singles by Mallex Smith and Alberth Martinez led to two runs, on run-producing plays by Maxx Tissenbaum, who had a sacrifice fly, and Diego Goris, who grounded out to score Tejada.
Fort Wayne (35-23) starter Bryan Rodriguez (1-0) earned his first win of the season, allowing just one run over five innings. He surrendered a second-inning run, which upped his season ERA to 1.04. Matthew Shepherd and Leonel Campos both worked in relief, with Campos earning his fourth save in five tries.
In the Fort Wayne fourth, the TinCaps extended their lead to 3-1, with Luis Tejada scoring on a two-out throwing error by first baseman Kevin Patterson. Two more TinCaps runners touched home in the fifth on a Luis Tejada ground-out and Chris Burke RBI single, respectively.
The TinCaps are now a season-best 12 games over .500, and still lead the Midwest League Eastern Division wild-card race by 4.5 games over Bowling Green, with only 11 games left in the half.
The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:05 PM Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. The scheduled starters are Walker Weickel for Fort Wayne and Taylor Cole for Lansing. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
