Silver Hawks Prey on Midwest League to Clinch Playoff Spot

South Bend, Indiana (June 6, 2013)- With a sweep of the Lake County Captains during today's double header your 1st place Silver Hawks clinched a spot in the Midwest League Playoffs. The 2013 squad was able to secure a playoff spot by dominating the Midwest League with a 41-17 record with only 11 games remaining in the 1st half. The Silver Hawks are in the midst of one of the best winning stretches in franchise history in winning 17 of the last 18 games.

The playoff format for the Midwest League is as follows: The division winner and 2nd place finisher of each half are guaranteed a playoff spot and an opportunity to battle it out for the Midwest League Championship. The Silver Hawks currently lead the Eastern division by 6.5 games over 2nd place Ft. Wayne Tincaps.

"This year's squad is filled with an amazing group of guys and I couldn't be happier for them or our coaching staff. I am also very excited for the fans of Michiana, it is always exciting when a team in your community as the opportunity to play for a championship," stated Team President, Joe Hart.

The first round of the playoffs will begin on Wednesday, September 4th on the road but the Silver Hawks will be back in action at the Cove on Thursday, September 5th and Friday, September 6th if necessary.

The South Bend Silver Hawks are a Class A minor league team affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team is owned and operated by Swing-Batter-Swing, LLC whose sole shareholder is Andrew T. Berlin of Chicago, IL.
