Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL - Charlie Tilson's three-run home run in the sixth inning and a ninth inning surge wasn't enough for the Peoria Chiefs as they dropped to the Clinton LumberKings 8-5 on Thursday night. The loss dropped the Chiefs to 31-26 and two games behind Beloit for the second playoff spot in the Western Division heading into their rubber match against Clinton on Friday.

The LumberKings opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning against All-Star Tyrell Jenkins. With the count full Jabari Henry homered to left field to put Clinton up 1-0. Jenkins retired the next three hitters, two via the strikeout, to get out of the inning.

Clinton added to their lead with two runs in the second frame. With two outs Gabby Guerrero and Brock Hebert singled to put runners on first and second. Tim Lopes tripled to right plating both Guerrero and Hebert extending Clinton's lead to 3-0.

The LumberKings added two more runs in the third inning. Janelfry Zorilla reached first on a walk, and Gabriel Pimentel drove him in with a triple to right. Patrick Kivlehan walked and Jenkins left the mound with an injury as Thomas Lee came in out of the bullpen. Tyler Marlette singled to left to score Pimentel for a 5-0 Clinton lead

Clinton added a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. With Hebert at third base and two outs in the fourth, pinch-hitter Dario Pizzano singled to score one and put the LumberKings up 6-0. Tyler Marlette cracked a one-out home run in the fifth to extend Clinton's lead to 7-0.

The Chiefs finally broke through against All-Star Tyler Pike in the sixth inning plating four runs. Breyvic Valera led off with a single, and Ildemaro Vargas reached after Hebert misplayed the throw from Lara, allowing Valera to advance to third. Jacob Wilson singled to left to score Valera and after Jordan Walton flew out to left Charlie Tlson homered over the foul ball pole in right. Tilson's second home run of the year plated Vargas and Wilson while cutting the LumberKings lead to 7-4.

Clinton got one of those runs back in the eighth inning. Hebert and Lopes hit back-to-back singles, and both stole a base while Henry struck out. A wild pitch from Robert Stock scored Hebert, and after Lopes advanced to third Pizzano grounded out to end Clinton's threat, leaving the score at 8-4.

Peoria put across a run in the ninth and threatened to score more. Kelly reached base with a two-out walk, and Jesus Montero moved him to third with a double. With Valera batting, Kelly scored on a passed ball and Montero advanced to third. He was stranded at third after Valera flew out to end the game.

Jenkins (4-4) gave up five runs on five hits in two innings while striking out three. Lee allowed two runs on six hits in three innings while striking out two. Joe Scanio allowed one hit but no runs in two innings while fanning one. Stock gave up one run on two hits in two innings while striking out three.
