Dayton Dragons News Release

Bowling Green, Ky.-Tommy Coyle collected three hits including two doubles and drove in two runs to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a 6-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night. The Hot Rods snapped a seven-game losing streak with the win as Dayton lost for just the second time in their last 11 road games.

Dayton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, getting three consecutive singles from Robert Ramirez, Joe Hudson, and Zach Vincej to take the lead. But Bowling Green answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, capped off by Coyle's two-run double, to go ahead 4-1. The Hot Rods added two more runs in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Bowling Green starting pitcher Dylan Floro (4-2) earned the win, going six strong innings. He allowed five hits and one run with one walk and four strikeouts.

Dragons starting pitcher Sal Romano (4-6) suffered the loss. He allowed four runs, all in the second inning, over his five-inning stint. Romano allowed six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Tony Amezcua entered the game to start the sixth inning and allowed two runs in one and one-third innings, giving up five hits with no walks or strikeouts. Wandy Peralta closed out the night by going one and two-thirds innings, allowing no hits or runs with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Dragons finished with eight hits. Jesse Winker had a triple, single, and walk to raise his batting average to a season-high .313. The Dragons argued that Winker's triple had cleared the right field fence and bounced back on the field, but umpire Jeremie Rehak ruled the ball in play. Hudson also had a two-hit night for the Dragons. Seth Mejias-Brean had a double.

The Dragons battle the Hot Rods in the rubber match of the series on Friday at 8:05 p.m. (EDT). Pedro Diaz (1-5, 6.25) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Sean Bierman (2-2, 1.62). The Dragons open a three-game series at Fort Wayne on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.
