Frederick Keys News Release

Kinston, NC - Frederick Keys shortstop Pedro Florimon became the second Key in the last three weeks to earn the honor of Carolina League Player of the Week. Robbie Widlansky earned his second player of the week honor just two weeks ago. Both Matt Angle and Brian Matusz have also earned weekly league awards in 2009.

From the week of August 17th - 23rd, Florimon batted .462 (12-26) with four doubles and six RBI's. His biggest night came on August 19th when Florimon went 5-for-5, falling a home run short of the cycle against Wilmington. It was just the second five hit game for a Key in the 2009 season.

This award follows a resurgence for Florimon after a hot start to the 2009 season. Florimon batted .310 with seven home runs in the first two months of the season. He had hit five home runs in his five year professional career prior. After offensive struggles in June and July, Florimon has rallied in August batting .303 with 16 RBI's in 23 games played in the month.
