Potomac Nationals News Release

POTOMAC NATIONALS (34-23, 71-53) VS. MYRTLE BEACH PELICANS (26-31, 51-73)

RHP Brad Peacock (2-2, 4.50) vs. LHP Cole Rohrbough (6-7, 5.74)

August 25, 2009 -- 7:05 p.m.

BB&T Coastal Field - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Game #125/Road #66

TODAY: The Potomac Nationals play Myrtle Beach in the second game of their final four-game set from BB&T Coastal Park this evening beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Pelicans, who currently have the lowest winning percentage overall in the CL, are currently in a three-way tie for playoff spot in the Southern Division. The P-Nats are still on the outside looking in as they trail the Wilmington Blue Rocks by 2.5 games in the Northern Division after yesterday's defeat paired with Wilmington's victory over Lynchburg. *The Blue Rocks' Magic Number for the Second Half Division title is down to 12.*

TODAY'S OPPOSING STARTERS: LHP Cole Rohrbough, 21, was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Braves on June 1, 2007 out of Western Nevada Community College. He holds the distinction as the final draft-and-follow player signed by the Braves before MLB did away with the practice. He entered the season facing seriously high expectations as he's listed as the top left-handed pitcher and sixth best overall prospect in the Braves' minor league system by Baseball America. He dazzled in his first professional season, appearing in 14 games (13 starts) between Danville and Rome and combining to go 5-1 with a 1.17 ERA. He was hampered by an ankle injury and rotator cuff tendinitis last year and went 5-6 in 18 appearances. Rohrbough spent nearly a month this season on the D.L. and enters today's start with the P-Nats at 4-6 with a 5.73 ERA.

Potomac has had four cracks against this promising lefty with Rohrbough going 1-2 with a 7.47 ERA. The southpaw suffered through his shortest outing of the season against the P-Nats on July 7th when he lasted just 2.2 innings allowing six runs and five hits all while walking five in the Pelicans' 10-1 loss from BB&T Coastal Field. The defending champs last saw this prospect in an appearance from Woodbridge on July 28 when Rohrbough suffered through another brief outing when he was tagged for five runs including two homers in four innings. While still struggling to provide consistency in the Pelicans rotation, this southpaw has won his last two starts only letting up four earned runs and striking out 11 in 11.0 innings. After posting ERA's over 7.00 the previous two months, Rohrbough owns a 4.71 mark in August while going 2-1.
