Washington, PA -- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped the first game of a three game set by a score of 7-4 at CONSOL Energy Park Friday night.
The Wild Things got off to a good start when Jacob Dempsey hit a two run homer to get the game started. The blast was Dempsey's 30th of the season.
Florence scored four runs in the third inning, including a Ryan Basham two run homer. They continued to add to their lead in the fourth inning with two separate solo shots from Jay Johnson and Justin Pickett.
Dempsey scored again in the fourth on an Alan Robbins sacrifice fly.
In the sixth inning Florence took a four run lead when the Freedom scored on a strike out wild pitch. But Dempsey answered with solo home run to lead off the sixth.
Chris Ingoglia (6-9) took the loss for Washington, allowing six (earned) runs on 11 hits. He struck out six and walked two in 3.1 innings of work. Rob Hedrick, Keith Meyer, and Nick Peterson pitched in relief.
The Wild Things and Freedom meet for the second game of this final three game set Saturday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Brian McCullough will take the hill for Washington. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:55 p.m. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
