Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Traverse City Beach Bums broadcaster Tim Calderwood was selected by the Frontier League as the 2009 Broadcaster of the Year. The Frontier League announced its postseason awards on Friday.
Calderwood is in his third season as The Voice of the Beach Bums and broadcasts all contests on The Fox FM.
Prior to joing the Beach Bums front office, Calderwood spent three years as the Sports Information Director and play-by-play announcer at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He also spent two summers working in collegiate summer baseball, serving as the voice of the NECBL's Sanford Mainers in 2006 and the CICL's DuPage Dragons in 2005.
A Chicagoland native, Calderwood graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois with a degree in broadcast communications in 2003 where he was classmates with River City broadcaster Jason Lamar. In addition to earning several awards, during college he also served as a broadcast intern with the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League when Flyer games were broadcast on the North Central radio station.
During the offseason he broadcasts for local colleges in the Chicago area including Elmhurst College and Loyola University Chicago.
In addition to his time at Loras, Calderwood has also interned with the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) and the Chicago Rush (Arena Football). He has also written for local newspapers. Calderwood was the lone member of the Beach Bums to receive recognition.
The Beach Bums will continue the final series of the season tomorrow night when RHP David Dinelli (3-5, 6.80) takes to the hill opposite RHP Bernard Robert (6-6, 4.33) in a 7:05pm tilt with the Kalamazoo Kings. Robert is 3-0 against the Beach Bums this season. It will be College Spirit Night at Wuerfel Park with fans dressing in college gear receiving discounted admission. Kalamazoo had its magic number to clinch the East Division title shrink to one.
