Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Brett Durnad tossed eight innings and Jason James hit a two-run single in the seventh inning lifting the Rockford RiverHawks to a 3-2 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts.
With the loss, Windy City needs to win both of their final two games and get a win from either River City or Midwest in their final two contests to qualify for the playoffs.
After the ThunderBolts were set down in order in the top of the first inning, Caleb Fields got the RiverHawks half of the inning started with a homer on the second pitch for a 1-0 Rockford lead.
Windy City was finally able to solve Brett Durand in the fourth as Robert Perry continued his torrid pace over the final six weeks of the season, knocking his sixth homer of the season out to right, tying the game at 1-1. The ThunderBolts would take the lead in the sixth inning when Kraig Binick walked with one out, stole both second and third and scored on a Gil Zayas single for a 2-1 Bolts edge.
Rockford would respond in the seventh as with runners on first and second and one out, Jason James singled into right field, scoring Jono Brooks and Caleb Fields for a 3-2 RiverHawks lead.
Windy City got their leadoff man on in the eighth, but starter Brett Durand was able to quell the rally and Tyler Pearson retired Windy City in order in the ninth, getting the last out on a fly ball to the wall off the bat of Gilberto Mejia for the save.
Durand (10-6) went eight innings allowing two runs. Ricky Meinhold (4-3) took the tough luck loss for the Bolts.
The middle game of the series is on Saturday night with Ross Stout (12-5, 2.98) on the mound for the ThunderBolts against Kyle Wright (10-5, 2.16) for Rockford. Windy City will host the Chicago Blackhawks Alumni softball game on September 7 at 4:00 p.m. It is a 16" softball game between the Blackhawks Alumni and the Chicago Fire and Police Departments. Stan Mikita, Dennis Savard and Tony Esposito are among the alumni who will be in attendance. Tickets to the game are $12 and are available at the Standard Bank Stadium box office.
