Flint Firebirds News Release
Flint, Mich - Flint Iceland Arenas General Manager Jason Lyon announced today that the Flint Iceland Arenas, official practice facility of the Flint Firebirds Hockey Club, will close temporarily for renovations and upgrades prior to the 2015-16 season.
The Iceland Arenas will shutdown for approximately six weeks from June 18th to the beginning of August for remodeling to provide an elite facility for the various youth organizations in the community. The facility will receive numerous renovations on the infrastructure including upgrades to the compressors and condensers. In addition, the arenas will receive a makeover providing a fresh and branded Firebirds appearance.
"We're excited about this new era in youth hockey," Lyon said. "It gives us the opportunity to diversify our business and not only develop youth hockey players but all athletes in general," added Lyon. "We think the local community will be impressed with what we unveil in August."
With the growing demand of youth baseball, lacrosse and soccer leagues throughout the Flint and Genesee County region, state-of-the-art field turf will also be permanently installed in one of the three rinks at Flint Iceland Arenas. Along with field games, this area will also be utilized by the Firebirds Hockey Club and other youth teams for strength and conditioning training, including fitness testing throughout their respective seasons.
Additionally, locker rooms will be renovated throughout the summer in preparation for the Firebirds Training Camp in August, giving the organization and community a professional grade practice facility for years to come.
