Battalion Releases 2015-16 Schedule

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The North Bay Battalion will open the 2015-16 regular season on Friday, Sept. 25, at home against the Peterborough Petes, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Thursday.

In its second game of the season, on Sept. 27, the Battalion visits the Oshawa Generals, the reigning Memorial Cup titlists, whom the Troops took to six games in the Eastern Conference Championship Series.

North Bay plays 34 home games, comprising 17 Thursdays, 12 Sundays, three Fridays, one Monday and one Wednesday.

The Battalion's annual Thanksgiving Monday game features the Mississauga Steelheads as the visitors in a 2 p.m. start, while the Troops host Mississauga again on Dec. 31, in a New Year's Eve game at 1 p.m.

Apart from Dec. 31, Thursday and Friday home games start at 7 p.m., as does a Wednesday visit by the Hamilton Bulldogs, formerly the Belleville Bulls, on Feb. 24. Sunday games start at 2 p.m.

Within the Central Division, one of two in the conference, the Battalion faces the Sudbury Wolves eight times and the Barrie Colts, Mississauga and the Niagara IceDogs six times each. The Troops play East Division teams four times each and Western Conference opponents twice each, except for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, who provide the opposition four times.

BATTALION BULLETS: The Bulldogs make their first visit to North Bay on Nov. 26. The Flint Firebirds, formerly the Plymouth Whalers, invade Memorial Gardens on Nov. 29 ... The Saginaw Spirit, the former North Bay Centennials franchise that moved to Michigan in 2002, visits on Feb. 11 ... The Battalion's busiest month is January, in which it plays 13 games, including eight at home. The Troops play 12 games in October and 11 in each of November and February ... From March 5-12, the Battalion plays five consecutive road games, among eight away games in the final 11. The Troops play four straight road games Nov. 5-13 ... The longest stretch of home games is four, from Dec. 10-18 ... The Battalion visits the Ottawa 67's on the Family Day holiday Monday, which falls on Feb. 15 ... The Troops, who played 15 seasons in Brampton before relocating to North Bay in 2013, visit their former Peel Region rivals in Mississauga on Oct. 25, Nov. 20 and Feb. 19 ... The Battalion has two home-and-home series. The Troops travel to Barrie on Jan. 2 and host the Colts on Jan. 3. North Bay entertains the Wolves on March 17 before visiting Sudbury the next night ... The Troops' preseason schedule, reduced to four games from five, features two meetings with each of Sudbury and the Owen Sound Attack.
