January 31, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Central Hockey League today named Thunder rookie Jason Flick the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week, Wichita's CHL-most, ninth award winner this season.
Flick, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, won all three starts last week, allowing just three goals and recording his second shutout of the season. He began the week by cruising to a 19-save, 6-2 home victory over Corpus Christi on Thursday.
Following an eight-hour bus ride, Flick turned in perhaps his best effort of the season, making 28 saves in a 3-0 victory at San Angelo on Friday. Flick wrapped up his perfect weekend with a 22-save performance in a 3-1 Thunder win at Odessa on Saturday. Flick's three wins helped the Thunder pull to within five points of the first place Colorado Eagles.
Flick, who also won CHL weekly honors back in November, ranks third among CHL goaltenders with a 2.25 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. With a record of 13-4-1, Flick also holds the third best winning percentage among all CHL goaltenders.
Jason Duda, Scott Allison, Joe Blaznek and Travis Clayton (twice) have all been named Oakley CHL Players of the Week this season. Clayton also was named the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month for December, while Jamie Vandespyker was the Sherwood CHL Goaltender of the Month for October.
The Thunder, 28-10-2, return to action on Friday to host the red-hot Tulsa Oilers at 7:30 PM for Local Food Pantry Night. Fans can get half-price tickets with the donation of any non-perishable food item. Saturday is Nascar Night, sponsored by the Kansas Army National Guard and a battle for the number one seed in the CHL with the Colorado Eagles. Fans can get $3 off tickets by wearing Nascar gear and can see the #16 car of Greg Biffle. Both a Tank and Blackhawk Helicopter are also expected to be on display at the game.
Corporate packages and season tickets for the 2004-05 campaign are also still on sale. To order your tickets or for more information, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
