Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVENâRiverKings players Jeremy Wray and Ryan Rome have been experiencing some "dog days" lately, thanks to two Siberian Huskies.
Rome returned home from practice this week and saw the two dogs running around in the North Creek "The Links" apartment complex, which is hosting the team this season.
"The apartment management said they were going to call Animal Control to come get the dogs," Rome said. "I didn't want them to be put down, so I tried to lasso them up, but they ran off before I could get to them."
Disappointed but unable to change the circumstances, Rome went about his business. Later that day, he and RiverKings forward Jeremy Wray were busy playing a heated X-box game. The two men had the door to their apartment propped open to get some cool air circulating through the place.
Suddenly, the two dogs appeared in the doorway.
"The male walked right up and sat down between my legs," Rome said. "They weren't scared at all. They were very friendly."
However, both dogs are really skinnyâRome said you can feel both dogs' ribs despite their heavy fur coats and estimates they have probably been wandering for a week without food.
Tracey Cain, girlfriend of RiverKings forward Travis Banga, found an ad in the newspaper saying that two Siberian Huskies were missing from East Memphis. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same two Huskies that Rome had found.
"If it was closer to the end of the season, I would keep them and take them home," Rome said. "They would make great farm dogs. They're beautiful dogs and really gentle. I think they would be great with kids. They're awesome."
The animals can currently be viewed at the Horn Lake animal shelter, (662) 393-5857. For more information, please call the RiverKings office, 662-342-1755.
