Biloxi Shuckers News Release

BILOXI, MS. - Rosters for the 2016 Arizona Fall League clubs were announced on Wednesday, and the Biloxi Shuckers will be heavily represented on the Salt River Rafters. The team's roster comprises prospects from Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers.

Five members of Biloxi's squad will take their talents out west to showcase themselves with other top prospects from Minor League Baseball. Those include pitchers Tayler Scott, Tyler Spurlin, Josh Uhen, along with catcher Jacob Nottingham and outfielder Brett Phillips. The sixth member of Milwaukee's contingent is Low-A Wisconsin shortstop, Isan Diaz.

Phillips, 22, is the eighth-ranked prospect in the Brewers' farm system, and 69th overall (MLB.com), and the highest ranked prospect for the organization on the Rafters' roster.

The Seminole, Fla. native has hit .230 in 120 games at the Double-A level, and leads the Shuckers with 16 home runs and 61 RBI. Over his career, the fifth-year pro has a .279 average with 29 homers, 231 RBI and 64 stolen bases in 465 games with the Brewers and Houston Astros organizations.

Phillips was acquired with RHP Adrian Houser, LHP Josh Hader and OF Domingo Santana from Houston on July 30, 2015 in exchange for OF Carlos Gomez and RHP Mike Fiers.

Nottingham, 21, is the 15th-ranked prospect in the Brewers' organization. The Shuckers' catcher comes into Thursday with a .233 average in 108 games, along with 10 long balls.

The Redlands, Calif. native has had at least 10 home runs in each of his two seasons in full-season leagues, and has thrown out 34 percent of attempted base stealers in his four-year career.

Nottingham was traded to the Brewers organization on Feb. 12, 2016 from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Of Kris Davis and RHP Bubba Derby.

Uhen, 24, is the youngest of the three pitchers named to Salt River's team from the Biloxi roster.

The right-hander started the season with the Brevard County Manatees (MIL, A+), appearing in 32 games and posting an ERA of 4.35 (24er/49.2ip) before being promoted to the Double-A level on Aug. 19.

In three games with the Shuckers, the Oshkosh, Wis. native has held opponents off the board in 5.2 innings across three games.

Uhen was drafted by Milwaukee in the fifth round of the 2013 draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Spurlin, 25, also started the season with the Brewers' High-A affiliate, appearing in nine games out of Manatees' bullpen. The side-winding righty had a 1.69 ERA (2er/20/2ip) before being transferred to Biloxi on May 4.

In 39 games of relief for the Shuckers, the The Woodlands, Texas native has posted a 2.95 ERA (13er/39.2ip) with 35 punchouts.

Spurlin was signed by Milwaukee as an undrafted free agent on June 17, 2013 out of Rice University.

Scott, 24, has held opponents to a .200 batting average over 21 relief appearances out of the Shuckers' bullpen this season.

The Johannesburg, South Africa native was signed to a minor league contract by the Milwaukee Brewers and assigned to Biloxi on July 6.

Diaz, 20, rounds out the Brewers' farmhands. The young middle infielder leads the Midwest League, and all of Milwaukee's affiliates, with 20 home runs for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

The Arizona Fall League begins Oct. 11 and runs through Nov. 19.

Biloxi heads north to take on Mississippi for the final five-game series of the season at Trustmark Park starting Thursday night. RHP Luis Ortiz (2-1, 0.42) takes the mound for the Shuckers against RHP Patrick Weigel (0-2, 3.65) for the Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:40 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app.
