Barons Fall to Smokies 8-7 in Series Finale

KODAK, TN -- The Birmingham Barons tied a season-high with three home runs in an 8-7 defeat to the Tennessee Smokies in the final road game of the 2016 Southern League season.

Trey Michalczewski took control of Birmingham's offense, posting a solo home run in the fourth inning and bringing the Barons within one run thanks to a home run in the seventh.

Joey DeMichele slugged his 11th homer of the year earlier in the game, scoring Alfredo Gonzalez and starting Birmingham's mid-game rally.

Keenyn Walker led off the game with a solo home run as part of a 2-for-5 night at the plate. Marcus Lemon plated Hunter Jones in the third inning for Birmingham's second run.

Thaddius Lowry spun just three innings in the loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits while failing to record a strikeout.

Brandon Brennan tossed three strong frames in relief, allowing an unearned run while recording no walks and three strikeouts.

Colton Turner gave up two hits and a walk out of the bullpen, but forced an inning-ending double play in the seventh inning. Connor Walsh closed the game on the mound with a scoreless eighth frame.

Nolan Sanburn starts the final series of 2016 tomorrow evening at Regions Field as the Barons battle the Pensacola Blue Wahoos with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
