PEARL, MS -- Atlanta Braves outfielder Mallex Smith has been assigned to Double-A Mississippi on Major League Rehab. M-Braves LHP Steve Kent has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett and RHP David Peterson has been activated off the DL.

Smith, 23, was hitting .237 with 14 extra-base hits and 21 RBI in 58 games for the Atlanta Braves before hitting the disabled list with a fractured left thumb June 21. Smith played three games at Triple-A Gwinnett to start the season before making his MLB debut April 11. The speedy outfielder split last season between Double-A Mississippi (.340, 57 G) and Triple-A Gwinnett (.281, 69 G) where he swiped a combined 57 bags. Smith was acquired by the Braves via trade with the Padres along with several others in exchange for Justin Upton and Aaron Northcraft on December 19, 2014. He was originally selected by San Diego in the fifth round of the 2012 draft.

The Mississippi roster has 25 active players, 4 disabled and 1 ML Rehab.
