
BayBears Finish 2016 Home Schedule with 5-3 Win

MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears capped off their 2016 home schedule with a 5-3 win over the Montgomery Biscuits on Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. With the victory, the BayBears complete their 20th season with a home record of 756-632. Mobile remains four games back of the first-place Mississippi Braves in the Southern League South Division Standings. If Mississippi wins just one of their final five games or if Mobile loses just one of their final five games against the Suns in Jacksonville, then the BayBears will be eliminated from 2016 playoff contention.
Mobile (32-32, 64-70) fell behind by two runs, trailing the Biscuits 1-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Travis Denker was hit by a pitch and Dawel Lugo singled to put runners at first and second. The next batter was Rudy Flores. The BayBears first baseman powered out a towering three-run home run over the right field wall to give Mobile a 4-3 advantage The BayBears added a run in the bottom of the seventh to expand the lead to 5-3.
Montgomery (38-27, 72-63) suffered just their second loss in their last 11 games. Willy Adames tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning with a RBI single to drive in Keon Wong for the Biscuits first run. A pair of RBI singles from Braxton Lee and Wong in the fifth inning gave Montgomery a 3-1 lead at the time. The lead would only hold for an inning until Flores' go-ahead homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.
RHP John Omahen (8-5) earned the win on the mound from Mobile. The righty allowed just two earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out four in seven innings of work.

The BayBears will travel to Jacksonville, Florida for the final five games of the regular season on the road against the Jacksonville Suns.
With the State of Emergency declaration and inclement weather forecast for Northeast Florida, Thursday's game between the Jacksonville Suns and Mobile BayBears at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville has been postponed. Thursday's game is scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader of seven-inning games beginning at 4:05 p.m. central time on Saturday
As of Wednesday night, the game on Friday, Sept. 2, remains a single, nine-inning game scheduled for 6:05 p.m. central time.
