
Five-Run 8th Inning Gives Mets Win Over IronPigs

(Syracuse, NY) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (40-34) dropped the second game of the series on Wednesday evening as the Syracuse Mets (30-43) won 10-6. The Mets scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning - all against Michael Kelly (0-2) to win the game.
The Mets took a 3-0 lead against Corey Oswalt in the bottom of the first inning. Khalil Lee hit an RBI double that scored Kramer Robertson. Mark Vientos followed with a two-run home run that also scored Lee. Lehigh Valley scored a run against Connor Grey in the top of the second inning as Rafael Marchan hit an RBI double that scored Donny Sands.
Quinn Brodey hit an RBI double against Oswalt in the bottom of the second inning that scored Gosuke Katoh and gave Syracuse a 4-1 lead. Oswalt allowed four runs in three innings while he gave up five hits and issued one walk with three strikeouts.
Lehigh Valley scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning against Grey to take a 5-4 lead. Daniel Robertson hit a two-run double that scored Jorge Bonifacio and Scott Kingery. Will Toffey also hit a two-run double that scored Robertson and Dalton Guthrie. The Mets tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning against James Marvel. Lee scored on a throwing error by Kingery at second base.
Rob Zastrynzy threw a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning that allowed Robertson to score from third base and give the 'Pigs a 6-5 lead. Syracuse then scored their five runs against Kelly in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 10-6 lead. Brodey scored on bases-loaded walk then Travis Blankenhorn hit a three-run double. Patrick Mazeika hit an RBI single to score Blankenhorn for the fifth run of the inning.
Stephen Nogosek (2-0) earned the win by pitching two scoreless innings in relief for Syracuse.
The IronPigs and Mets will continue their series on Thursday evening at NBT Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
