Saints' Seven Game Home Win Streak Snapped in 11-2 Loss to Storm Chasers

ST. PAUL, MN - It's easy to forget the St. Paul Saints had won their last seven home games. On the road for the last two weeks, the Saints swept a six-game series against the Rochester Red Wings the last time the team was at CHS Field. Add a win on May 29 vs. Indianapolis and that seven-game win streak ended at the hands of the Omaha Storm Chasers, 11-2, on Tuesday night in front of 7,105.

The Storm Chasers jumped out to an early lead in the first. On the first pitch of the game Dairon Blanco doubled to left. The 44th best prospect in baseball according to Baseball America, Nick Pratto, followed with a two-run homer to right, his 12th of the season, putting the Storm Chasers up 2-0.

The Saints answered in the third as Michael Helman led off the inning with a double to left. John Andreoli's sacrifice bunt moved Helman to third, and José Godoy's RBI single to left put the Saints on the board making it 2-1.

The teams traded solo home runs in the fourth as Clay Dungan went deep for the Storm Chasers, his sixth of the season.

Jake Cave crushed a solo homer to right-center, his eighth of the season, making it 3-2. Cave's home run extended his streak of reaching base safely to 42 consecutive games, second longest in Minor League Baseball this season behind the 51 straight from Corpus Christi's Luke Berryhill (April 14-June 21). Cave went 2-3 with a double, home run, RBI, and run scored.

From there it was all Storm Chasers as they scored eight unanswered runs. In the fifth, they tacked on another run and it came with two outs and nobody on. Dairon Blanco walked. He stole second and third and Nick Pratto walked. An infield single by Nate Eaton plated Blanco increasing the Storm Chasers lead to 4-2.

The Storm Chasers made it 5-2 without a hit in the sixth. Brewer Hicklen led off with a walk, stole second, was balked to third, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Clay Dungan.

The Storm Chasers put the game out of reach in the eighth as the first four hitters reached. Eaton started the inning by getting to first on a fielding error from third baseman Spencer Steer. A single from Michael Massey put runners at the corners. Hicklen walked to load the bases. A two-run double by Clay Dungan followed by a two-run single from Freddy Fermin gave the Storm Chasers a 9-2 lead.

The final two runs came in the ninth on a two-run homer from Massey, his third of the season.

The Saints grounded into a franchise record five double plays, surpassing their previous high of three which they've done six times.

The same two teams meet in game two of the six-game series on Wednesday afternoon at 1:07 p.m. The Saints send RHP Cole Sands (0-4, 5.20) against Storm Chasers LHP Austin Cox (2-3, 3.71). the game can be seen on the Saints Broadcast Network, cable access channels in and around the Twin Cities, and MiLB.TV and heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
