ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back to take a series-opening victory over the Sounds last night, 6-3. After Rodolfo Castro roped a two-out, RBI single to plate the first run of the game for Indy, a three-run frame put them out of reach of Nashville. A hit batter and fielding error set up runners at the corners, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kevin Newman extended the lead to 2-0. Fellow major league rehabber Ben Gamel then launched a two-out, two-run homer to right field. The Sounds countered with a two-run shot of their own off the bat of Jon Singleton in the bottom half. An RBI double by Carter Bins and single by Josh Bissonette plated the final two Indians runners in the third and ninth innings, respectively.

BIG GAME, INDEED: "Big Game" Ben Gamel, in the fourth game of his rehab assignment with Indy, went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, home run and two RBI last night. He led the Indians in offense in both hits and RBI in the contest, with two of the Indians three total extra-base hits. After going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his first game with Indy, he has since hit safely in all three games played (4-for-12) with just two strikeouts. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on 5/29 with a left hamstring strain after appearing in 45 games with Pittsburgh to begin the season.

SWAGGERTY STREAKING Travis Swaggerty is tied for the second-longest on-base streak in the International League at 19 games (also: Nashville's Mark Mathias) behind St. Paul's Jake Cave's active 42-gamer. Since his streak began on 5/27, Swaggerty has hit safely in 16 of 19 games with a .324 average (24-for-74), 10 extra-base hits and 19 RBI. His hot streak extends even farther back than that, and he has reached base safely in 27 of his last 28 games with hits in 24 since 5/17. In that time, he owns a .343 average (37-for-108), 13 extra-base hits (five doubles, three triples, five home runs) and 24 RBI. In June, he has hit safely in 13 of 15 games, five of which have been multi-hit contests, with a .316 average (18-for-57) and .987 OPS. Four of his six home runs this season have come in his last 15 games.

BAE'S THE BEST: Ji-Hwan Bae continued his torrid month of June with a hit last night at Nashville. He has reached base safely in 57 of his 66 games played and ranks second among all International League qualifiers with a .316 average (80-for-253) this season. After batting .322 (29-for-90) over 24 games in May, Bae is hitting .354 (34-for-96) with eight extra-base hits in 23 June contests. Along with batting average, the 22-year-old ranks among league leaders in runs scored (T-2nd, 51), hits (4th, 80), stolen bases (5th, 19), triples (T-5th, 4), total bases (T-7th, 124), OPS (8th, .869) and OBP (10th, .379).

BOLTON BUMPING: After holding Nashville to just one run over 3.0 innings last night to earn the win, Cody Bolton has now allowed just two earned runs in his last 10.1 innings across four outings (one start). Bolton has been nothing if not consistent for the Indians, and since earning his first career Triple-A win on 5/17 vs. Toledo, he is 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA (6er/29.2ip), just one home run allowed and 30 strikeouts in nine games (five starts).

OLIVA IN THE OUTFIELD: Jared Oliva is currently working a 40-game errorless streak dating back to 4/16, which is the ninth-longest active streak in the International League. It is the longest such streak among his teammates this season and is 14 games shy of his 2021 54-game errorless streak from 6/23-10/3. The longest errorless streak by an Indians fielder came when Danny Ortiz did not commit an error for the entirety of the 2016 season (94 games played).

TAKE THAT EXTRA BASE: The Indians have roped at least one extra-base hit in each of their last 43 games, which is the second-longest such streak in the International League behind St. Paul (64 games). Since 5/10, they have 144 extra-base hits and rank among International League leaders with 14 triples (1st, T-2nd Triple-A) and 84 doubles (2nd, 4th).

TONIGHT: The Indians will look to build on an early 1-0 lead in the series vs. Nashville tonight in an 8:05 PM ET first pitch at First Horizon Park. Last year, they split the season series, 5-5, with an even record in six games in Nashville and four in Indy. For the Indians, Zach Matson will take the mound ahead of Travis MacGregor for each of their first career outings against the Sounds. Countering for Nashville is Caleb Boushley, who also has never pitched against Indianapolis.

THIS DATE IN 2003: Pete Zoccolillio launched a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat Richmond in walk-off fashion, 3-2. After Indy took a 2-0 lead in the fourth, Richmond ran down to the wire and plated a pair to tie the game in the top of the ninth. Zoccolillo was one of four Indians batters (also: Jim Rushford, Keith Luuloa and Alex Delgado) to notch multi-hit games in the win.
