New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

(Portland) - Jacoby Ellsbury homered to lead off the 7th inning, and Chris Durbin scored from third base on an error by reliever Tracy Thorpe as the Portland Sea Dogs edged the Fisher Cats 3-2 Monday afternoon. The game was scheduled as 7-innings because it was to be the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was canceled because it did not have an impact on the league standings. Portland (72-67) had already earned the Northern Division wildcard slot (they will play at Trenton Tuesday night), because Binghamton lost 2-0 in Connecticut earlier in the day.

New Hampshire (68-73) had a 2-1 lead going to the 7th, but Ellsbury homered off Tracy Thorpe (3-1) to tie the game. Chris Durbin doubled, Brandon Moss reached on a bunt (Thorpe threw to third, but did not get Durbin), and Luis Jimenez was intentionally walked. Jeremy West then hit a come-backer, which Thorpe threw over catcher Erik Kratz to allow the winning run to score.

Jimenez homered in the Portland 2nd off starter David Purcey to give the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead.

The Fisher Cats took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd on an RBI single by Brad Hassey and a sacrifice fly by Dustin Majewski.

Edgar Martinez (5-3) worked a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win for Portland.

The Fisher Cats finished the season winning 15 of their last 19 games. They won the season series with Portland (Red Sox AA) 14-12.
