Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs have established another attendance record at Hadlock Field. In 63 openings in 2006, the Portland Sea Dogs averaged a franchise record 6,358 fans per game, surpassing the previous mark of 6,290 fans in 2005.
The Portland Sea Dogs sold out Hadlock Field 20 times in 2006 and drew 400,534 fans during the regular season, surpassing 400,000 fans for the sixth time in franchise history. The Sea Dogs finish the season second in the Eastern League in average attendance. On July 3rd the Sea Dogs welcomed their 5 Millionth fan in franchise history becoming one of the quickest Double-A franchises to accomplish the feat. Seating capacity at Hadlock Field was increased by 393 seats to 7,368 with the addition of the U.S. Cellular Pavilion.
The franchise record for fans in a single season was set in 2004 when 434,694 fans came out to the ballpark. The Sea Dogs would have made a run at that record this season, had the club not suffered eight rain outs.
Over the Sea Dogs 13 year history 5,184,940 fans have enjoyed Portland Sea Dogs baseball. The Portland Sea Dogs thank the fans for their support throughout the 2006 season and the entire 13 year history of the franchise.
The Sea Dogs have qualified for post-season play for the second straight season and fifth time in franchise history. Eastern League playoffs begin on Wednesday, September 6th. Games one, two, and five (if necessary) will be in Trenton, New Jersey. The Sea Dogs will host games three and four ( if necessary) of the Northern Division Championship on Friday and Saturday at 6:00 PM.
