MANCHESTER, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored two runs in each of the first three innings on their way to a 7-2 win over the Thunder on Wednesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. With the defeat, the Thunder were swept in the three-game series and finished their road trip at 3-2.
Right-hander Albert Abreu was tagged with his second loss of the season after surrendering a season-high six runs in four innings. Abreu allowed back-to-back doubles to start both the first and second innings, allowing the Fisher Cats to build an early lead they would not relinquish. Chad Spanberger knocked a two-run home run in the third inning to extend the New Hampshire advantage. Abreu finished his outing with a scoreless fourth inning, matching his longest outing of the season.
The Thunder offense grabbed both of their runs in the second inning off Zach Logue. Chris Gittens led off the frame with a double and advanced to third out a wild pitch then scored on Brandon Wagner's groundout to make it 2-1. After Rashad Crawford grounded out to the pitcher, Jhalan Jackson hit a mammoth solo home run to deep left to tie the game at two. It was Jackson's second home run of the season.
With a 6-2 deficit after three innings, Logue settled in and held the Thunder scoreless for his final four innings on the mound. All told, Logue allowed nine baserunners and two runs in six innings pitched.
The Thunder managed seven walks on offense, led by Ben Ruta who took three free passes and stole his league-leading seventh base of the season. Jackson and Francisco Diaz had two-hit days at the bottom of the order.
James Reeves and Trevor Lane each delivered scoreless innings out of the bullpen combining for four strikeouts.
