New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Britain, CT- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats snapped a prolonged offensive slump by exploding for five runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning en route to an 11-1 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats Friday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. Brian Jeroloman went 2-for-6 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning that came as the front end of back-to-back homers with Adam Calderone, making Randy Boone a winner in his Fisher Cats' debut.
New Hampshire (6-3) batted around in the top of the fifth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. Brad Emaus (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB) lined a two-run single, and David Cooper (2-for-5, BB, RBI, R) added an RBI single off losing pitcher Cole Devries. Brian Dopirak (3-for-5, 2B, BB, R, 2 RBI) greeted reliever Yohan Pino with a run-scoring single, and Jeroloman knocked in Dopirak with a double off the rightfield wall for a 5-1 lead.
The Fisher Cats sent 10 more men to the plate in the sixth inning, reaching Pino for six runs. Emaus and Dopirak had RBI singles before Jeroloman brought them both home with a bomb over the rightfield wall for his first home run of the season. Calderone (1-for-5, HR) followed with his second homer of the season, pulling Pino's pitch inside the rightfield foul pole.
Devries (1-1) gave up five runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. The right-hander issued six hits, walked three and struck out one. Pino fared even worse, allowing six runs on nine hits in 1.1 innings.
Boone (1-0), making his Double-A debut, allowed only one unearned run in six innings of work. The right-hander scattered six hits and struck out two before Rommie Lewis (2 IP) and Nate Starner (1 IP) finished off the Fisher Cats' third straight win.
New Britain (2-7) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Matt Moses (1-for-3, 2B, BB, R) doubled, advanced to second on a single by Whit Robbins (1-for-2, BB) and scored when centerfielder Sean Shoffit booted Robbins' single.
New Hampshire starting pitchers have now strung together 28 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run, posting an ERA of 1.72 through their first nine games. Left-hander Marc Rzepczynski (1-1, 6.75) tries to keep the successful streak going on Saturday night at 6:35pm when he matches up with New Britain right-hander Matthew Fox (0-0, 6.35). Radio coverage begins with the BayRing Pre-Game Show on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network at 6:15pm with Mike Murphy.
The Fisher Cats open a four-game series against the Binghamton Mets on Thursday, April 23, with a 6:35pm game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The first 2,000 kids in attendance will receive a free Coca-Cola Fisher Cats Pennant. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
