New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

New Hampshire Fisher Cats pitchers Kyle Drabek, Trystan Magnuson and Alan Farina combined for a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in a 2-0 victory over the Bowie Baysox Saturday. The eighth shutout recorded by New Hampshire this season was witnessed by a season-high crowd of 7,882 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Callix Crabbe, who made his first Fisher Cats start since being transferred to Las Vegas on July 16, gave New Hampshire all the runs they would need. It took until Bowie used their bullpen for the Fisher Cats to pounce first in the bottom of the sixth. Crabbe manufactured the run by leading off the inning with a walk, stealing second, moving over to third on a 4-3 putout and coming around to score on Adeiny Hechavarria's RBI single to left.

The one run is all the Fisher Cats (67-47) would need as Drabek and Magnuson and Farina combined for the eighth Fisher Cats shutout of the season. Drabek (12-9, 2.92) earned the victory, finishing his night after throwing six innings of two-hit ball, while striking out seven and walking one. Magnuson recorded the hold, allowing just one base runner in the seventh and eighth innings on a hit by pitch. Farina got the save, retiring the side in order in the ninth.

Brandon Cooney (2-1) received the loss after surrendering the first run of the game in the sixth for Bowie (62-51).

New Hampshire added an insurance run in the seventh when Shawn Bowman, who reached on a hit by a pitch, got plated on a Jonathan Jaspe RBI single to left.

Starters Drabek and Chorye Spoone were part of an old-fashioned pitcher's duel through the first five innings. Spoone, who is undefeated since May 16, won his last five decisions. Drabek, who started the All-Star Game, has pitched six-plus innings in eight of his last nine starts. Each hurler went at it pitch for pitch, keeping the opposition off the scoreboard by giving up just two hits in that span.

New Hampshire made some noise, but couldn't produce any runs off Spoone. In the first inning, Darin Mastroianni began the frame with a double off the left field wall, but was stranded at third. In the home-half of the third, Crabbe hit a one-out double, but got stranded in large part to a 1-6-3 double play.

Bowie's best chance to score off Drabek came in the fourth. Tyler Henson reached on a leadoff walk, moved to second on a Joel Guzman single, but was left at third after Shawn Bowman started a 5-4-3 DP and Drabek retired the side with a K.

The homestand concludes at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Sunday with the rubber match against the Baysox. New Hampshire right-hander B.J. LaMura (5-3, 4.25) will return to the rotation and take on Bowie right-handed pitcher Eddie Gamboa (3-4, 3.36). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 1:15 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.

The first 1,000 fans to the ballpark Sunday receive a Monarchs T-Shirt, courtesy of Catholic Medical Center. Sunday also marks Kids Run the Bases. The Fisher Cats will go on the road for three games against Richmond and three against Altoona before returning home August 17 versus Binghamton.
