New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Akron's Ronnie Chisenhall homered twice to power the Aeros past the Rock Cats, 10-6 before a sellout crowd of 6,489 on Saturday night. It was the 18th sellout of the season.

Chisenhall finished the night with three hits and scored three runs to lead a 15-hit attack. The Rock Cats pounded out 10 hits of their own in a game that saw plenty of offensive action after a scoreless first inning.

Rock Cats starter Deolis Guerra appeared to have returned to his top prospect pitching form with a perfect first inning in which he struck out two batters. In the second, he allowed a leadoff double to Beau Mills and an RBI single to Carlos Rivero that put the Aeros on the board, 1-0.

The Rock Cats broke out their bats in the bottom of the second with a four-run explosion. Catcher Jeff Howell opened the inning with a double to right and scored when Erik Lis crushed a two-run shot over the Stanley sign in right field to put the ‘Cats on top, 2-1. Mark Dolenc kept the hitting streak alive with a base hit into left and advanced to second on a ground out by Yancarlos Ortiz. T.J. McFarland then walked Chris Cates to put runners on first and second with one out. Then, with Estarlin De Los Santos at the plate, Dolenc and Cates pulled off a double steal. The attempt to throw out Dolenc was mishandled by Lonnie Chisenhall at third, allowing Dolenc to score. Left fielder Cristo Arnal missed the ball in as well and Cates raced around the bases to score another run to put the Rock Cats ahead, 4-1.

The wheels fell off for Guerra in the top of the third, though, as the Aeros pounded out six singles and scored five runs to retake the lead. Juan Apodaca led off the third with a line drive to left. Arnal and Jordan Henry both followed with bunt singles to load the bases. A wild pitch by Guerra allowed Apodaca to cross home plate before Jason Kipnis delivered a two-run single that tied the game. Chisenhall then lined a base hit into left field before Guerra unleashed another wild pitch, allowing both runners to move into scoring position. John Drennen added a two-out single to knock in two runs and put the Aeros back on top, 6-4.

The Rock Cats refused to go down without a fight and quickly answered back in the bottom of the inning. Juan Portes, Howell, and Lis led off the inning with consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. Dolenc struck out before Ortiz laced a single through the hole into left to score Portes. Cates drew another walk, this time scoring Howell from third to tie the game.

Guerra's control problems led to the Aeros taking the lead back in the top of the fourth. Tim Fedroff led off with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch by Guerra.

Chisenhall slugged a solo homer and Drennen tacked on another run with an RBI double in the seventh for Akron. Chisenhall added another solo shot in the ninth.

Guerra (2-8) finished with seven runs on nine hits in just four innings. Steven Wright (1-1) tossed two shutout innings in relief to pick up the win for Akron.
