Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Winnipeg Goldeyes are finding out that runs are tough to come by in south Texas.

For the second straight night, the Goldeyes (3-2) could only score one run in a 3-1 defeat to the Laredo Lemurs (4-2) before 5,419 fans at Uni-Trade Stadium Tuesday evening.

Winnipeg took a 1-0 lead early in the game when Luis Alen doubled to start the second inning and then scored on a single by Amos Ramon.

Laredo responded to tie the game in the third inning, as Luis Uribe touched the plate off an Anthony Scelfo double.

The score would remain tied until the eighth inning when things came undone for the Goldeyes. Manager Rick Forney was ejected after arguing that Yunesky Sanchez wasn't hit by a pitch from Dexter Carter to being the bottom of the inning. After Price Kendall made a critical error trying to turn a double play on a ground ball by Jorge Delgado, Sanchez and Delgado would eventually score the winning runs via a double by Uribe.

The pitching effort by Winnipeg starter Ace Walker and reliever Dexter Carter was fantastic. Walker rebounded from a poor Opening Day start to go 5.1 innings, allowing just a run on five hits. He walked two and struck out two. Carter takes the loss, but he also allowed only one earned run in 2.2 innings.

Garrett Sherrill picks the win for Laredo, while Chaz Roe got the save.

After sweeping the Amarillo Sox to begin the 2012 season, Winnipeg has now lost two in a row to Laredo and will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in the final game of this three-game series.

Southpaw Chris Salamida will start for Winnipeg. Laredo will go with Chris Chavez.

Game time is 10:30 a.m. Paul Edmonds will call the action on CJ Radio 107.5 FM and online at www.cj107radio.com.
