SIOUX FALLS, SD (May 22, 2012) - It was one pitch that Billy Spottiswood wishes he could have back, but with the bases loaded Jared Bolden made him pay and the St. Paul Saints lost 5-3 on Tuesday night to the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Sioux Falls Stadium.

With the Saints leading 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh Reid Mahon gave up a one out double to Al Quintana. That was followed by a walk to Joe Anthonsen. Jonny Kaplan's grounder to third forced Anthonsen at second and a walk to Cory Morales loaded the bases. Mahon's night was done and Spottiswood's first pitch to Bolden was deposited over the right field wall, his second of the season, to give the Pheasants a 5-2 lead.

The Saints managed to get a run in the eighth inning when Ronnie Bourquin led off with a walk and with two outs Alex Garabedian roped a double to right. Bourquin initially held at third, but the relay throw was dropped by second baseman Anthonsen and Bourquin scored on the error.

With the Saints trailing 1-0 in the fifth Jon Townsend tripled and scored on a two out double by Willie Cabrera, but Jim Rapoport was thrown out at the plate trying to score.

The Saints took the lead in the sixth when Bourquin singled, stole second on a great pop up slide as the ball beat him at the bag, but he popped up before the tag and stepped on second before being touched. Garabedian's singled to score Bourquin and give the Saints a 2-1 lead.

The Saints got a great spot start from Chris Odegaard who went 4.1 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking two and striking out one.

The same two teams meet in the second game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium. The Saints send RHP Wes Roemer (0-0, 1.29) to the mound against Pheasants RHP Andrew Liebel (0-1, 11.57). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
