Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Sox give up an early lead to the Redhawks in front a home crowd of 1,842 at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. Fargo-Moorhead's big inning in the third was the difference as they beat the Sox 13-8 in three hours and thirteen minutes.

Jason White's lead-off double sparked the Sox hitting attack with three runs in the first. The Sox would score in the second from an RBI single by Jake Opitz and another two runs in the third inning with RBIs by Chuck Lofgren and Mitch Abeita.

Todd Jennings had a two run homer in the second for the Redhawks and then it was all Redhawks starting with a six-run third inning which included back-to-back homeruns by Marcos Rodriguez and Ryan Delgado. Hitters Nic Jackson and Enrique Cruz batted in a run a piece in the third inning as well.

Then in the fifth, Fargo-Moorhead tacked on a two-run homer by Jackson and a Carlo Cota RBI single to make it 11-6. In the bottom of the inning, the Sox center fielder, Adam Buschini hit a two-run blast to come within three of the Redhawks.

That would be as close the Sox came to tying it as they did not score after the fifth inning. The Redhawks were also held up until the ninth when two more runs scored from a Jackson double, one of those runs being unearned.

Starter for the Sox, Trent Lare (0-1), who went two and two-thirds innings, gets the loss, giving up six earned runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Marcus Limon pitched two innings in relief, giving up five additional earned runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Pitching two and a third innings was Andrew Bowman who only gave up two hits with two strikeouts and no runs. Wes Littleton pitched the eighth, walking two but allowing no hits and no runs. And in the ninth, Ryan Mitchell came on to allow two runs on two hits, one earned, while striking out two.

Redhawks starter, Andrew Bowman went just one and one-third innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits, walking three and striking out one. Alex Rivers (1-0) gets the win in relief, pitching three and two-thirds innings, also giving up four earned on five hits and striking out three. Pitching three innings was Tyler Herron, who gave up just two hits and no runs while striking out four and walking one. Joe Harris closed out the ninth inning in one-two-three fashion, only walking one.

With the loss, the Sox drop to 0-4 on the season and the Redhawks improve their record to 4-1. Tuesday, the Sox get another chance at the Redhawks in game two of their home series. Official first pitch is set for 7:05pm. The broadcast can be heard on Ustream via amarillosox.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
