El Paso Diablos News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX- One nightmare inning solved away another win for the Grand Prairie AirHogs, as the home team put up six runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead on their way to an 8-4 victory over the Diablos in game two of a three game set at QuikTrip Park.
Diablos starter Erik Blackwell was undone by a string of bad luck (three infield hits in the inning) and a three-run home run off the bat of AirHogs catcher Chris McMurray, lasting just four and a third frames, allowing seven runs and striking out two while walking none.
The Diablos jumped out to a fast start when Maikol Gonzalez hit the team's first home run of the season (and the first for Gonzalez in two years) for a quick 1-0 lead. After the AirHogs tied the score in the second, the Diablos retook the lead in the fourth on catcher Patrick Arlis' RBI double.
But El Paso could never quite climb back into the game after the AirHogs batted around in the fourth. Grand Prairie starter John Brownell (1-1) allowed four runs but limited damage in key situations to come away with the victory. Relievers Griffin Bailey and Derrick Miramontes pitched the final three innings to preserve Grand Prairie's fourth win of the year.
The Diablos added two runs in the sixth to draw within three on J.J. Muse's sacrifice fly and Brian Joynt's two-out, RBI single. It was as close as the Diablos would get, however, as the AirHogs added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth of Bryan Myrow's first home run of the season.
The Diablos will try and salvage the final game of the series tomorrow at 10:35 a.m. CST (9:35 a.m. CST) with Osvaldo Rodriguez (1-0) on the hill for El Paso. He'll face off against Nick DeBarr for the Air Hogs.
