Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the New Jersey Jackals 3-2 in 11 innings at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.
Ryan Khoury doubled home Salomon Manriquez from second base with one out in the bottom of the 11th to drive in the winning run and help the Wingnuts snap a mini three-game losing streak. Manriquez opened the inning with a line drive single to left against Jackals' reliever T.J. Wink and advanced to second on Mike Conroy's sacrifice bunt. Khoury's game-winner came on a slicing line drive down the right field line.
Four Wingnuts relievers combined for five shutout innings, including an inning and one-third from Josh Dew who earned the win.
New Jersey struck first for a second stragiht night when Angel Berroa hit a solo home run to left field off Wingnuts' starter Derek Blacksher.
The Wingnuts responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a clutch hit from Mitch Einertson. Taylor Freeman legged out an infield single on a groundball deep in the hole at shortstop to lead off. After Conroy reached on an error by second baseman Gaetano Giunta, Khoury was hit by a pitch on a sacrifice attempt to load the bases with no outs. Two batters later, Einertson ripped a single through the left side to score Freeman and Conroy with the tying and go-ahead runs.
Wichita held the lead until the seventh when soft hits from Giunta and Berroa put runners on first and second with no outs. A sacrifice bunt from Bryan Sabatella set up Francisco Caraballo's RBI groundout to shorstop that tied the game at 2-2.
Blacksher took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in six-plus innings. Blacksher walked one, struck out five, and retired the leadoff hitter in six of the seven innings he started.
Matt Nevarez and Nick Walters each chipped in a shutout relief inning, while Edgar Martinez worked one and two-thirds scoreless.
Wink took the loss, allowing one earned run in one and one-third innings.
Jackals' starter Isaac Pavlik also took a no-decision, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits in six innings. Pavlik walked none and struck out six.
