Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
A pair of offensive outbursts have the Winnipeg Goldeyes heading home all smiles.
The Goldeyes (27-18) scored three times in the first inning and three more in the fourth to dispose of the Kansas City T-Bones (18-27) 6-3 Thursday night before a monstrous crowd of 9,650 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City.
The victory gives Winnipeg the series win, which is the fifth consecutive series win for the Goldeyes and fourth on the road this season.
Wes Long opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with an two-run double and then scored on a Jon Weber sac fly to give Winnipeg an early 3-0 lead.
Kansas City quickly responded with a solo home run from Keanon Simon, which led off the bottom of the first inning, and two-run dinger from Rico Washington to tie the game 3-3.
Goldeyes catcher Luis Alen started the fourth inning with a solo home run - his first long ball of the season - to put Winnipeg back on top. After Justin Bass drew a walk, Louis Ott drove his second home run of the season out of CommunityAmerica Ballpark to give Winnipeg a 6-3 lead.
Winnipeg starting pitcher Ace Walker settled in after the shaky first inning to go five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five. It's his fourth win of the season. T-Bones starter Matt Mitchell takes the loss. Ian Thomas got a ground out and two strikeouts in the ninth for his first save of the season.
With the St. Paul Saints beating the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Thursday night, Winnipeg remains half a game out of first place in the North Division, but the Goldeyes move four games up on Fargo for second place in the division.
The Goldeyes return home to begin a crucial four-game series with St. Paul, which begins Saturday night at Shaw Park at 6 p.m. While it's only the midway point of the season, first place in the North Division will be on the line in the series.
Great seats for all Goldeyes games are available by visiting any Ticketmaster location, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE.
