St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (JUNE 30, 2011) - For the third night in a row, a big inning gave the Saints a lead they would not relinquish as they beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 10-1 on Thursday evening in front of 4,474 fans at Midway Stadium.
A seven run fourth inning gave the Saints all the ammunition they needed to shoot down the RedHawks and take the first three games of a four game series. After two outs to start the inning, eight straight Saints batters reached base. A bases loaded walk to Adam Frost tied the game at one apiece, before Justin Snyder lined a two-run single to centerfield to make it 3-1. After Jason Cooper worked a bases loaded walk to put the lead at three runs, RedHawks starter Alex Caldera was lifted for lefty Adam Tollefson. Brandon Tripp greeted him right away, as he cleared the bases with a three run double to make it 7-1.
Up 8-1 in the sixth inning, Richard Mercado blasted a moonshot to left field, his fourth of the season, putting the Saints up by eight runs.
Alberto Rolon recovered from a shaky first inning, to throw 6.2 innings allowing one run, scattering six hits and walking five guys while striking out a batter. Rolon's record is now 5-1. Lefty Kyle Carr threw 1.1 innings of shutout ball and righty Robert Coe finished off the game with a scoreless ninth.
These two clubs meet up one more time on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Edwin Walker (1-2, 4.50) will take the hill for the Saints while LHP Jake Laber (6-1, 1.74) will start for the RedHawks. It is the Independence Day Celebration with Fireworks presented by Snapple and Cub Foods, as the Saints will say thanks to Minnesotans in the military. The game can be heard live Relevant Radio 1330.
