Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

LINCOLN, Neb. - Cristian Guerrero put together another record setting day, placing an exclamation point on a successful roadtrip as The Gary SouthShore RailCats swept away the Lincoln Saltdogs with an 11-4 win on Thursday night.

Phil Hawke handed Lincoln the lead with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the first. Hawke stepped to the plate with Gavin Dickey on base and homered over the wall in left on a 1-2 offering from Nolan Nicholson handing the Saltdogs a 2-0 lead.

The RailCats, who rallied from a pair of two-run deficits to win on Wednesday, chipped away at the lead with a run in the second. Chris Carrara logged a two-out single and Mike Rohde doubled off the left in left, knocking home the first run.

Brian Kolb, starting for the first time on the roadtrip, led off the third with a single before Adam Klein walked and Mike Massaro legged out a bunt single to load the bases. Guerrero broke through with a two-out two-strike single to score a pair and give the RailCats a 3-2 lead. Toddric Johnson's sacrifice fly extended the advantage to 4-2. Kolb notched a two-out double in the fourth and scored on a single from Klein, pushing the lead to 5-2.

Lincoln pulled within 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth, adding two more runs on Nicholson as Maikel Jova and Jorge Cortes drove home runs. Nicholson threw five innings in the game, allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out three.

Craig Maddox greeted reliever Steve Junker with a single in the top of the seventh as the RailCats loaded the bases with no outs with Kolb singling and Klein coaxing a walk. Nick Schreiber entered with two away and allowed a tape measure grand slam homer to Guerrero, his seventh of the year and fifth of the roadtrip. The slam was the first of the year for the RailCats. Johnson added a two-run double in the eighth to account for the final as the RailCats plated runs against all but one of the five hurlers Lincoln placed on the mound.

Guerrero matched a franchise record with six RBIs in the contest. Every member of the lineup posted a hit in the game led by three each from Guerrero and Kolb.

The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard on Saturday, June 2 for a 6:10 p.m. contest with Sioux Falls on Steel Day. LHP Alain Quijano (3-2, 6.00) receives the start for the RailCats.
