St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (June 30, 2011) - It's the most important night of the season for the St. Paul Saints for many reasons. It's a chance to bring families together and celebrate our nation's independence, it has one of the most spectacular fireworks shows in the Twin Cities, but most of all it gives the organization and everyone that packs the ballpark an opportunity to give thanks to the men and women who provide us freedom. It's the annual Independence Day celebration presented by Snapple and Cub Foods.
On Friday, July 1 the Saints say thanks to Minnesotans in the Military for their service during a pre-game ceremony and throughout the evening. In conjunction with Minnesota's Military Appreciation Fund (MMAF) three Purple Heart recipients will be honored on field prior to the Saints 7:05 p.m. game against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
The Saints will don sand camouflage style jersey's during the game. Each jersey will be auctioned off and will be signed by the player with the proceeds benefitting MMAF.
The MMAF is a statewide fundraising initiative that shows troops how much we appreciate and respect their efforts by providing cash grants to all service members deployed in combat zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan and to all families of service members who are killed in combat.
MMAF has raised more than $11 million, making it the nation's largest-ever statewide fundraiser of its kind. MMAF has provided over $6.5 million in grants to more than 11,000 recipients.
"There are hundreds of thousands of men and women who risk making the ultimate sacrifice every day in an effort to protect the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans, many of whom are Minnesotans" said Derek Sharrer, Executive Vice President General Manager of the St. Paul Saints. "On this special evening we hope to provide an opportunity for fans to celebrate the anniversary of our nation's Independence and say "Thanks" to those Minnesotans who serve to protect that Independence."
Fans are encouraged to show up early and take part in a memorable on field ceremony complete with a fly over, introduction of Minnesota military members and the honoring of the three Purple Heart recipients.
Following the game one of the longest, loudest and most colorful fireworks shows in the area will conclude this special evening.
In season's past the Saints have honored Women in the Military, the Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, the Wounded Warrior Project and Vietnam Veterans. The Independence Day Game has traditionally drawn about 9.000 fans including a record crowd of 9.312 on July 6, 2007.
Tickets are available for the July 1 Independence Day game starting at $8 for general admission, $11 for outfield reserved and $15 for infield reserved. Tickets for all other home games are available starting at $5 for general admission, $8 for outfield reserved and $12 for infield reserved. Friday Home Games with post-game fireworks (except July 1, August 26) are an additional $2 per ticket. The August 26 game also features extended post-game fireworks and is an additional $3 per ticket. Tickets purchased on the Day of the Game are an additional $1 per ticket. Children under the age of 12 and seniors 65 and older receive $1 off the admission price. Children under 2 that don't require a seat are free.
