Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Zach Eflin's (5-5) return to the Fightin Phils (53-44) didn't go as well as planned as the Bowie Baysox (52-44) attacked him midway through his start to win 6-4 on Wednesday morning. Eflin made his first start with Reading since 6/29 at Portland.
For the third straight game the Fightins Phils took a lead in the top of the first inning against the Baysox. Brock Stassi hit a two-run double with one out off Mikey O'Brien (2-1) to give the Fightins a 2-0 lead. Rene Garcia scored on an error by Quincy Latimore that extended Reading's lead to 3-0. The Fightins recorded six hits in the top of the first inning.
Corban Joseph homered for the second straight game as he hit a solo home run off Eflin in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Fightins lead to 3-1. Eflin left the game after 4 1/3 innings as he allowed five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning that gave Bowie a 6-3 lead. Tom Windle came into the game in relief of Eflin.
Eflin allowed six runs (four earned) off nine hits in 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts in his return to Reading. Rene Garcia put the Fightins closer in the top of the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Kelly Dugan and cut Bowie's lead to 6-4. Windle left the game after 1 2/3 innings in relief. He gave up two hits and recorded one strikeout.
Edubray Ramos entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ramos tossed two scoreless innings in relief giving up just one hit with one strikeout. Andrew Knapp's 17-game hitting streak came to an end in the top of the ninth inning, as he grounded out to first-base to end the game.
The Fightin Phils continue their road-trip up to New Britain, Connecticut to play the Rock Cats. First pitch is at 7:05 pm on Thursday night. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:35 pm.
