
B-Mets Blast Three Homers to Beat Rock Cats Today

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats lost to the red hot Binghamton Mets 9-5 Wednesday afternoon in front of a capacity 6,971 fans at New Britain Stadium. The B-Mets blasted three home runs to improve to 53-43 and the Rock Cats, who hit two homers, fell to 45-51. The victory moved Binghamton into first place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division and a 3-game sweep over New Britain. Rockies top prospect OF David Dahl had three hits, including a double and 2 RBI for the Rock Cats. The B-Mets have a 6 game win streak and have won 12 of their last 14 games. The Rock Cats, who have lost 4 in a row, host the Reading Fightin Phils Thursday night at New Britain Stadium (7:05 PM).
The B-Mets took a 2-0 lead on a line drive home run by catcher Xorge Carillo, his sixth of the season off New Britain starter Ryan Carpenter (LP 5-11). Binghamton third baseman Josh Rodriguez made it 4-0 with his 15th home run, a two-run blast in the third inning. Meanwhile, the Rock Cats left four men stranded on base over the first three innings off B-Mets starter Michael Fulmer.
Binghamton added five runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a pinch-hit grand slam home run by Jared King off reliever Gus Schlosser. The B-Mets led 9-0 after five and a half innings.
After leaving eight men on base over the first five innings, the Rock Cats scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off reliever Beck Wheeler. OF David Dahl ripped a two out 2-run single and 2B Juan Ciriaco followed with a run scoring triple to make it 9-3.
Outfielder Jordan Patterson opened the 7th inning with his first Double-A home run for New Britain and Will Swanner stroked a pinch hit home run for the Rock Cats in the 8th to make it 9-5. However, that is as close as the Rock Cats would come. B-Mets starter Michael Fulmer earned the win in five scoreless innings.
The Rock Cats open up a 4-game weekend series against the Reading Fightin Phils starting tomorrow night at New Britain Stadium (7:05 PM). RHP Bryan Evans will start for the Rock Cats against RHP Colin Kleven who will pitch for Reading.
