New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
HARRISBURG, PA - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats couldn't secure a victory and a sweep Wednesday, falling 13-0 to the Harrisburg Senators at Metro Bank Park after taking the first two games of the series.
The Fisher Cats (50-44) still earned a series victory, and have not lost a series since June 15-17 against the Erie SeaWolves. The Senators (49-49) salvaged a win from the series, and got a five-hit performance from Cutter Dykstra. Roemon Fields singled twice and stole two bases for New Hampshire.
Harrisburg got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning against Fisher Cats starting pitcher Taylor Cole (L, 4-8). RBI hits from Reegie Corona, former Fisher Cat Brian Jeroloman and Wilmer Difo broke the game open in a big way, making it 3-0. The Senators added three more in the third, with Jose Lozada singling home Dykstra and Jeroloman knocking home Shawn Pleffner and Lozada to run the lead to 6-0. Meanwhile, New Hampshire didn't trouble Harrisburg starter and former Fisher Cat Richard Bleier (8-3), who cruised to the victory with seven scoreless frames.
Cole was yanked for Luis Perez to start the fourth inning, but things didn't improve for New Hampshire. A solo homer by Dykstra in the fourth made it 7-0. In the sixth, Perez put runners on first and second with two out before he was pulled for Scott Barnes. The reliever gave up an RBI double to Dykstra, making it 8-0.
The hosts added an exclamation point in the seventh inning. Barnes gave up a leadoff tater to Pleffner, and a one-out conga line began for Harrisburg, with four more runs crossing the plate in the inning, culminating with a bases-loaded walk issued by Chad Girodo that made it 13-0.
Cole allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk over three innings, fanning one in the loss. Perez surrendered two runs on a hit and two walks while whiffing one in 2.2 frames. Scott Barnes gave up five runs on five hits and a walk while recording only two outs. Girodo gave up two hits and a walk, fanning two. Danny Barnes pitched a perfect eighth inning, recording two strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats will try to get back on the winning track Thursday when they open a four-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs. Righty Jeff Hoffman will start for New Hampshire against Portland right-hander Luis Diaz. First pitch at Hadlock Field is set for 7:00 p.m., and Ben Gellman's pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m. on 610 AM WGIR and online at www.NHFishercats.com.
