LAST GAME: The B-Mets won their fifth straight game, 4-1, against New Britain Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium. Binghamton scored three runs in the first inning, as four different B-Mets racked up multiple-hits. Gabriel Ynoa earned his seventh win, allowing a run in seven innings. Dario Alvarez and Paul Sewald combined to strikeout all six batters they faced out of the B-Met bullpen.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Michael Fulmer is making his 14th start of the season and third against New Britain. Fulmer has not allowed an earned run in 11 innings against the Rock Cats this season, going 1-0 in the two outings. This will be his first career appearance at New Britain Stadium. He's coming off a lost against Trenton, allowing three runs in five innings. Fulmer has a 0.85 ERA in his last seven starts.
NEW BRITAIN STARTER: RHP Ryan Carpenter is making his 20th start and the first of his career against Binghamton. He is 1-5 in his last six starts, coming off a loss against Reading, in which he allowed four runs in six innings. Carpenter has a 2.79 ERA at home, compared to 5.33 on the road. Carpenter ranks in the top five in the league in starts, innings pitched, home runs allowed and losses.
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN: The B-Mets are off to a 13-6 start in July, leading the league in team ERA (1.86) and ranking second in team batting average (.276) for the month. Altoona leads the way, batting .296 in the month. A win Wednesday would match Binghamton's season-high for wins in a month (14). The B-Mets have had a sub-3 ERA once in their last 51 months.
STRONG LIKE A BULL(PEN): The B-Met bullpen has allowed one earned run in the last 14 games and 35 innings. The bullpen has made 14 scoreless appearances over the last 18 games. B-Met relievers have a 0.70 ERA (3 ER, 38.2 IP) since July 2nd.
LIKE FATHER LIKE SON: LJ Mazzilli, have reached base in 20 consecutive games, driving in all eight runs during that span. It's the longest active streak in the EL. Mazzilli is batting .400 (14-for-35) in his last eight games. He has
registered multiple hits in three straight games for the first time this season.
CLOSING TIME: Jon Velasquez has earned six saves in the last 17 days and has been successful in each of his last 11 save opportunities. Velasquez has allowed one run in 16 ninth innings, while striking out 16. He has a 7.20 ERA in all other innings of work (5 IP, 4 ER, 1 K). Paul Sewald has been successful in his last 14 save opportunities.
THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER: Binghamton has allowed more than three runs in just one of their last 13 games. The B-Mets are 39-13 when holding their opponent to less than four runs in a game this season.
CONFORTO CRUSHING: Michael Conforto is 11-for-28(.393) with two home runs and six extra base hits over his last seven games. Conforto has reached base in 9 consecutive games and was named the EL Player of the Week on Monday.
FAMILIAR FACES: Two B-Mets make their returns to New Britain Stadium this week. Joe Benson hit .256 in his three years as a Rock Cat (2010-12), while Brock Peterson hit .274 (2007-08).
FIRST IMPRESSION: Joe Benson has reached base in each of his first eight games with the B-Mets, notching a basehit in seven of them. Benson already has four multiple-hit games in a B-Met uniform.
FOUR!: Binghamton has now won four consecutive series for the first time this season.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets begin a four game series in Trenton Thursday at 7:00 PM.
