ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies exploded for 13 runs and 20 hits on Thursday against the Greenville Drive, winning 13-9. Columbia scored five runs in the top of the ninth and erased a one-run deficit.
YOU'RE THE BEST, AROUND: The 20 hits on Thursday shattered the previous season-high for hits in a game (which was 12). The team's seven extra-base hits were also a season best.
HOT BATS: Five different players had multi-hit nights on Thursday and nine of the ten players that appeared in the game recorded a hit. Vinny Siena and David Thompson recorded four hits each, while Ivan Wilson and Dash Winningham finished with three apiece.
D-V-DOMINANT: Thompson and Siena remain atop the South Atlantic League among the best hitters. Thompson is 1st in the league in RBIs (16) and tied for 2nd in runs scored (15). Siena meanwhile is 1st in the league in walks (15), tied for 2nd in doubles (7), 2nd in on-base percentage (.492) and 4th in runs scored (14).
TAKE TWO: Siena and Jeff Diehl have the most multi-hit games this season for Columbia -- four each.
GOING ON THE OFFENSIVE: The last five nights, the offense has been clicking for both Columbia and Greenville. Since Sunday, the Fireflies are averaging nearly eight runs a game, while the Drive are piling up almost 11 runs per night.
THE OTHER GUYS: Greenville boasts the best team batting average in the South Atlantic League (.278). Their roster also includes seven Red Sox prospects, according to MLB.com:
