Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - Isael Soto's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a comeback and Greensboro erased a five-run deficit in topping the BlueClaws 10-9 at NewBridge Bank Park on Friday night.
Lakewood lead the game 6-1 after four innings but Greensboro scored four times in the fifth, then after a Lakewood rally, four times in the seventh to tie it. Soto's hit drove in Josh Naylor, who had doubled to start the inning, and gave the Hoppers their first lead of the game.
The loss drops the BlueClaws to 3-13 while Greensboro improves to 6-10. Greensboro has won four of the six meetings with the BlueClaws this year.
The BlueClaws took the lead in the second on a solo home run by Austin Bossart (his first of the year). They added three more runs in the inning, one on an RBI single by Zach Coppola and two on a double by Josh Tobias. Jan Hernandez homered in the fourth to put Lakewood up 6-1 - Hernandez's second straight game with a home run.
Greensboro scored four times off Alberto Tirado in the fifth inning to make it a 6-5 game. With their lead sliced to one, Lakewood added three more in the sixth, two on a double by Tobias and one on a groundout by Wilson Garcia, opening the lead back to four at 9-5.
The Hoppers then scored four times off Kenny Koplove in the seventh, tying the game on a three-run home run by Zach Sullivan. Tasin came on for the eighth and gave up the go-ahead RBI single to Soto, driving in Naylor to provide the final margin.
Tasin took the loss to fall to 0-3 while Ben Holmes, who threw two scoreless innings for Greensboro, improved to 1-0 with the win. CJ Robinson had a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his third save of the season.
Josh Tobias went 3-5 with a home run and four RBIs for the BlueClaws, while Jan Hernandez and Austin Bossart both homered as well.
Zach Coppola added three hits and extended his hitting streak to eight games in the process.
The loss marked the largest blown lead of the season for the BlueClaws - a five run lead lost. They lost a 7-3 lead in Hagerstown on April 12th.
The teams play the third game of their series Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park. RHP Harold Arauz (1-1) starts for Lakewood against RHP Cody Poteet (0-1).
