The Suns went into the bottom of the ninth inning in game 2 of the 4 game series against the Hickory Crawdads trailing by 2 runs. Matt Page came up to the dish with runners on first and second base. He took an inside fast ball and rocked it over the right field wall to give the Suns a 6-5 win over the Hickory Crawdads (11-5) in South Atlantic League play on Friday night at Municipal Stadium.
The starting pitcher for the Hagerstown Suns (11-5) was Matt DeRosier. He went 5.0 innings giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and 1 home run. The bullpen was a major factor to tonight victory. Jorge Pantoja and Tommy Peterson combined to throw 4 scoreless innings and only giving up 4 hits.
Tommy Peterson ended up getting the nod for the win tonight moving his record to 2-0 on the season.
Matt Page's walk-off home run was set up in the bottom of the ninth inning when Max Schrock reached on a broken bat flair into shallow center field. Kelvin Gutierrez came up next and got himself a base hit putting him at first and Schrock at second. Both of them scored on the Page home run.
Ryan Ripken also tallied an RBI which got the Suns within striking distance for the win.
The solo home run for the Crawdads came in the 5th inning when Chris Garia put the ball from DeRosier into the Crawdads bullpen.
The Suns send out RHP Andrew Lee (1-0) to face LHP Wes Benjamin (1-0) in game 3 of the 4 game series. First pitch at Municipal Stadium is set for 6:05pm and gates are open at 4:30pm.
