Flint Firebirds News Release
Guelph, Ont. - Flint scored three power-play goals, Connor Chatham recorded three assists and Alex Nedeljkovic made 26 saves in the Firebirds' 5-2 victory over the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre on Friday night.
Ten seconds into Flint's first power-play of the evening, Ryan Moore would convert backdoor on a pass by Connor Chatham from the slot earning Flint a 1-0 lead at 7:10 of the opening frame.
Just 18 seconds later, the Storm would tie the game with a wrap-around play. Nedeljkovic would make the initial save but would give up the rebound off the pad that Nick Deakin-Poot would knock in for his first OHL goal.
Then, while on the power-play in the second period, Connor Chatham fired the puck on net from the top of the right circle before Mathieu Henderson banged home the rebound.
2:09 later, Ryan Moore sniped the puck far side into the back of the net from the right circle, six seconds into the man-advantage earning Flint their third power-play goal of the night and a 3-1 lead in the middle frame.
On a two-on-one, Connor Chatham would tally his third assist of the night by feeding a crashing Zach Grzelewski who scored his fifth goal of the season and increased the Firebirds lead to three goals.
Guelph's Luke Burghardt would score the final goal for the Storm on the power-play from the slot with 7:25 remaining in the game before Zach Pittman blasted a seeing eye shot into an empty Guelph net from below the Flint goal line.
With the 5-2 victory on Friday night, Flint improves to 9-9-1-1 on the season and one point out of third place in the West Division of the Western Conference behind the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The Flint Firebirds return home to the Dort Federal Event Center tomorrow night against the Barrie Colts who are first place in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m. (ET). Fans are encouraged to bring a new toy to the Firebirds Merchandise Store, valued at $10 or more, to receive a bronze level ticket to the game compliments of Shaltz Automation.
