Saginaw Spirit News Release
SAGINAW, MI - The Saginaw Spirit return to the Dow Event Center this Saturday and Sunday to battle the Erie Otters and the Barrie Colts. The Spirit are coming off of a three-game road trip in which they came up empty, but have won four of their last five home contests.
Saturday night, the Spirit host the Erie Otters (18-2-1-0 37 points, 1st Midwest) in their second entanglement of the 2015-16 season. The Spirit handed Erie their first regulation loss of the season back on October 24th by a 6-3 score. The Otters are red hot as of late, reclaiming the #1 position in the BMO CHL Power Rankings this week. Erie set a franchise record for most consecutive road wins Thursday night in St. Catharines with a 4-3 OT win over Niagara. Erie is led by Farmington Hills native Alex DeBrincat, who is leading the OHL in scoring in his NHL draft season and reigning Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week goaltender Devin Williams. The Saginaw native has won all but one of his starts this season, an overtime loss to Kingston on October 23rd. The overaged goaltender leads the OHL with a 2.34 goals against average.
Saturday is the 9th annual Guns and Hoses Classic presented by Gohm Insurance Restoration and Mike's Wrecker Service before the Spirit game at The Dow Event Center. Local Police and Firefighters will battle it out for department bragging rights at 5:00pm. For fundraising tickets, call (989) 497-7747 or log on to www.saginawspirit.com/. $5 of each fundraiser ticket sold will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Sunday afternoon, the Spirit welcome the Barrie Colts to The Dow for the first and only time this season. The Spirit will wrap up the two game season series with the Colts after dropping their first contest against Barrie last Saturday night by a score of 5-1. The Colts are led by their top offensive line of Calgary Flames Prospect Andrew Mangiapane, San Jose Prospect Kevin LaBanc, and Anaheim Ducks pick Julius Nattinen. The three have combined for 86 points thus far on the season. Barrie is coming off of a 4-1 win over Sudbury Thursday night and has won six out of their past seven games.
