Attack Start Roadtrip with Loss
November 20, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack didn't start their weekend road trip the way they had hoped.
A Friday night trip to take on the Sting in Sarnia saw Michael McNiven turn in a solid goaltending performance in a tough 1-0 loss for the Attack.
Despite making 30 saves on 31 shots on the night, McNiven's performance didn't help Owen Sound generate any offence as the Attack failed to capitalize on three Baywest Nissan Powerplays.
Owen Sound started slow on the evening, only mustering five shots in the opening frame, following that up with seven in the 2nd period.
The Attack were able to generate more action in the Sting end in the game's final 20 minutes of play, but Sarnia goaltender Justin Fazio was also solid when called upon.
Recording the shutout on the evening, Fazio turned aside all 25 shots he faced, including 13 in the final period of play, Owen Sound's best period of the evening.
Jeff King would score the only goal of the game at the 4:07 mark of the 2nd period when the Sting defenceman finished off a three way passing play. The goal, which came while the Attack were on a Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill, would be assisted by Pavel Zacha and Troy Lajuenesse.
The goal would be enough to solidify the win for Sarnia, who moved two points ahead of the Attack after the win, with both teams entering the evening sitting at 24 points.
Jeff King would earn Mac Taylor Corporation 3rd Star honours thanks to his game winning goal, while McNiven's 30 save performance was enough to claim 2nd star of the game. Justin Fazio was the game's first star.
The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal would stand at 31-25 for Sarnia when the buzzer went at the end of the night.
Owen Sound travels even further south on Saturday, Nov. 21 when they head to Windsor to take on the Spitfires. That game is available live on both Rogers Local 53 and Terry's Trailer Service Kia of Owen Sound Bear Radio on 560 CFOS at 7:05pm.
The Attack are home next on Saturday, Nov. 28 when they host the London Knights for the annual Bears In Blue men's cancer fundraiser. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm and tickets are available at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com, or by calling 519-371-7452.
