Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors are set to open their 2003-04 regular season with a pair of home games on Friday and Saturday night at Centennial Garden. Both games will be against former WCHL foes, both now Pacific Division rivals.
Friday night is the much-anticipated opening of the Condors first season in the ECHL, with the Fresno Falcons coming into town for a 7:00pm tilt. Doors open at 6:00pm. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors 2003-04 magnet schedule, sponsored by KGEO AM 1230 and HealthSouth. Fresno last season reached the Taylor Cup Finals, losing to San Diego in seven games.
Fans who obtained tickets through the Condors Care-A-Vans this summer may redeem their tickets to Opening Night. The tickets were available to anyone who donated an item to Goodwill Industries on the Care-A-Van tour.
Saturday's match brings the dreaded San Diego Gulls into town for the first time this season. The first 2,000 fans 12 and under will receive a Jason Ralph bobblehead doll, courtesy of KGET-TV 17 and Carl's Jr. It is the first of two Bobblehead Nights planned for this season (the second is set for March 13th).
Vouchers earned through the Kern County summer reading program, "Readers of the Round Table", held in conjunction with KGET-TV 17 and the Condors, can be used on Saturday night. The program rewarded children for reading 10 books during the summer, and attending a special Condors appearance at their local library. The vouchers are good for terrace admission for two.
The first broadcasts of the season will be this weekend as well, on the Condors flagship station KGEO AM 1230. Every game, home and away, can be heard on KGEO with Kevin Bartl handling the play-by-play, as well as online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com with a link on the right hand side of the front page of the website. Tune in 15 minutes prior to game time for the "Condors Countdown" pregame show, and stay later for the postgame show immediately following the game. After every home game, you can chime in on the night's action during the postgame call-in show, by phoning the KGEO studios at 631-1230.
The Condors will be talking hockey on KGEO tonight, with "The Condors Coach's Show" live from the Holiday Inn Select. However, with tonight's Game Seven Match between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, the show will be recorded from 6:00-7:00pm, and played after the conclusion of the ballgame. Join Head Coach Paul Kelly and the "Voice of the Condors" Kevin Bartl every Thursday night for the show, enjoy drink specials, meet the players, and win great Condors prizes. This week's guests include C Jason Jackman and C Kevin Riehl.
Individual seats are on sale now, and may be purchased through the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased by phone through at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets and group outings may be purchased by phoning the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825), or stopping by the office in Centennial Garden next to the ticket windows.
