San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â San Diego Gulls General Manager and head coach Steve Martinson announced his 2003-04 Opening Day roster, with 17 players making the team. The Gulls open the season against their Pacific Division rival Bakersfield Condors Saturday at Centennial Garden, with game time scheduled for 7 p.m.
Of the 17 players on the roster, San Diego has 10 forwards, five defensemen and two goaltenders.
The forwards include returning players Miguel Delisle, Sylvain Deschatelets, David Neale, Mark Pederson, Clayton Read and Sandro Sbrocca. Newcomers to Gulls front line are Greg Barber, George Davis, Josh Gratton and Billy Tibbetts.
The defensemen include returning players Dan Cousineau, Mike Garrow and Bryan Vines. Newcomers to San Diego's blue line are Cliff Loya and Eric Skaug.
Trevor Koenig returns as the Blue and Orange's No. 1 goaltender with recently acquired David Burleigh serving as the backup.
ECHL teams are allowed to carry 20 active skaters on its roster so the Gulls do have three more active spots open, which could be filled before Saturday's tilt against the Condors. Teams can also have four veterans (those who have played 288-or-more games as of this season) on its squad. San Diego has one of those spots filled (Pederson) with three more available. The Gulls are also carrying seven rookies this season (Barber, Davis, Delisle, Gratton, Loya, Skaug and Burleigh).
